Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP/HEAP) is now open for a limited time!

LIHEAP grant applications will only be accepted through June 30, 2021 when the blanket moratorium on utility shut off ends. APPLY TODAY! Enrollment in LIHEAP can protect customers from service shut-offs due to nonpayment.

LIHEAP provides the following grants that can add up to $1,000 or more in utility bill credits:

Heating grants.

Emergency assistance grants to prevent shut off of service.

Up to $700 for heat and up to $300 for non-heating electric.

Energy debt forgiveness grants to significantly reduce overdue bills.

Medically necessary cooling grants for air conditioning costs.

If you are eligible for LIHEAP, you may also be eligible for the Universal Service Fund (USF). USF offers a monthly bill credit and/or debt forgiveness.

How to apply:

Use the DCAID screening tool at www.nj.gov/dca/dcaid or call 1-800-510-3102 to see if you meet LIHEAP’s income requirements. You may also call that number to request an application through the mail.

Apply for LIHEAP online and upload all required documents bit.ly/DCAIDportal.

Print an application here and email it to USFHEA-application@dca.nj.gov with all required documents or mail it to your local LIHEAP application agency here.
